Raleigh, N.C. – Basketball star Glen “Big Baby” Davis of the Orlando Magic announced today that he has selected Raleigh-based French/West/Vaughan (“FWV”) as his new marketing, public relations and endorsement agency of record. FWV will work with Davis’ business manager, Anthony Kimble and his agent, John Hamilton of Performance Sports Management, in promoting the “Big Baby” brand and lining up appropriate corporate partnerships for Davis and his charitable foundation.
Davis played college basketball for Louisiana State University becoming the conference’s freshman of the year in 2005 and its Player of the Year in 2006 while leading LSU to the Final Four. Davis was a key member of the Boston Celtics during the 2007-2011 seasons, helping the Celtics win the NBA title in 2008. Following the 2010-2011 season Davis became a free agent, ultimately signing a multi-year contract with the Orlando Magic in a sign and trade. In his first season with the Magic he recorded a career-high 31 points in a game versus the Detroit Pistons in April 2012. Davis is projected to be a centerpiece of a retooled Magic roster for the upcoming NBA season.
As a 6’ 9” power forward, weighing in at 289 lbs. and possessing great athleticism, Davis has the size and talent to dominate any NBA game but FWV Chairman Rick French sees more than just a basketball player in Davis. “Glen is one of the most genuine and caring professional athletes in any sport,” said French. “Glen doesn’t just talk about giving back, he lives it.” At 26 years of age, Davis has already established the Glen “Big Baby” Foundation, which provides resources and programs to encourage inner-city youths to stay in school and lead productive lives by focusing on literacy and healthy recreational activities. His Booking it with Baby Tour brings books and literacy programs to thousands of underprivileged children in the Orlando, Baton Rouge and New Orleans areas; and Glen is a passionate ambassador for the Soar with Reading project in conjunction with PBS and Jet Blue Airlines.
Davis joins All-Pro running back Arian Foster and starting free safety Glover Quin of the Houston Texans; NFL legend-turned-filmmaker Simeon Rice; Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Michael Vick; and Disney Channel star Brandon Mychal Smith as just a few of the many clients of FWV’s fast-growing sports and entertainment practice. The agency also represents sports properties such as the United States Polo Association, the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the Southwestern Athletic Conference and athletic apparel brands Arena Swimwear and SKINS.
For his part, Davis says he is excited about working with FWV. “French/West/Vaughan has one of the fastest-growing sports marketing and representation groups in the country,” said Davis. “They are true pros who really understand who I am as a person and can help me use my platform as a professional athlete to build stronger communities by reinforcing positive life choices, including encouraging young people to stay in school and learn to both read and write.”
French/West/Vaughan is one of the nation’s leading public relations, public affairs, advertising and digital media agencies, with offices in Raleigh, New York City, Los Angeles and Tampa. FWV’s Sports and Entertainment Properties practice utilizes the agency’s branding capabilities to develop and secure paid endorsement and spokesperson opportunities for its celebrity clients as well as corporate support for their charitable foundations.
